Dr Dave ClearyAs CTO and Chief Geek of Bonfire, Dr. Dave Cleary is responsible for strengthening business technology capabilities and developing the roadmap for new technology integration. Dr. Dave has over 25 years of experience in telecommunications and fiber access, and is an active member of numerous standardizing bodies including FSAN, ITU-T, and the MEF Forum.

He has been internationally recognized for his contributions to the GPON standard and has served as co-editor for the GPON Transmission Convergence Specification, the GPON Implementation Guide, and the GPON Interoperability Test Plan for PHY and TC Layers.

Dr. Dave has also worked in both academia and the private sector. He was a tenured professor of physics at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, where he conducted independent research and taught graduate-level physics. His unique and engaging style of explaining science and technology has enabled Bonfire to establish new technology partners and support the onboarding of new technologies with existing clients.

Dave has a PhD in Astrophysical, Planetary and Atmospheric Sciences; an M.S. in Astrophysics; and a BA in Physics and Mathematics. He currently resides in Minneapolis, MN (oddly enough, he doesn’t believe that 15 degrees is very cold) with his wife and two cats. They have two daughters pursuing college and postgraduate degrees. As a former professor, he is a consummate believer in stretching yourself to always be improving, no matter what you are doing.
